10 Romantic Valentine’s day Movies to Watch
You’ve Got Mail
You cannot convince us that any movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is not worth watching! There’s some pretty heated debate between You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, but personally, we’re partial to You’ve Got Mail because of the bookstore-owner angle and the heart-warming email conversations.
You can watch this on HBO Max if you’ve got a subscription or on Amazon Prime for $3.99.
50 First Dates
Adam Sandler movies are not meant for deeply intellectual, cinephile movie nights, but they are cute, goofy, and heartwarming. This one, with Drew Barrymore, that’s about a woman who has short term memory loss and forgets her first date with Adam Sandler’s character over and over again is one of our favorite feel-good rom-coms.
50 First Dates is available on Netflix!
Casablanca
If you’re a classic, black-and-white, slow-burn plot movie lover, this is a great love story for you. Set in French-speaking Morocco during World War II, this reunited love story about setting the people you love free is a wonderful way to spend your evening.
You can watch this one with an HBO Max or on Amazon Prime for $2.99.
Bridget Jones’s Diary
This Valentine’s Day movie is another cheeky little rom-com that are just fun to watch with your besties. For a good laugh (and a dose of Hugh Grant) for your evening, queue up this one and maybe the next ones in the series!
You can buy it on Amazon Prime for $3.99.
Dirty Dancing
Now, this is a classic that is worth watching. While Jennifer Grey’s performance here can feel a little strained at times, Patrick Swayze, the steamy dance moves, and the classic line “no one puts Baby in a corner” make up for any other shortcomings.
You can watch it with an HBO Max subscription or rent it for $3.99 on YouTube.
Anna Karenina
To be clear, this is not a happy ever after kind of story. However, it is an epic, clandestine, and star-crossed love that, set in imperial Russia, is incredibly romantic. The movie is beautifully made, with all the scenes being set up as if they were a play. If nothing else, the extravagant costumes, choreography, and Keira Knightley are enough to make this movie worth watching.
Free with a Netflix subscription!
Roman Holiday
Who doesn’t love a little Audrey Hepburn any day of the year?! If Audrey Hepburn and a romantic story between a reporter who falls in love with a literal princess while trying to get a scoop weren’t enough, the whole movie is set in Rome (hence Roman Holiday), so there are beautiful scenes and visuals throughout the whole movie.
You can watch it free with an Amazon Prime subscription or on PlutoTV.
The Way We Were
This movie always reminds us of that Gilmore Girls episode where Lorelai calls Luke to ask him to sit with her after their break up, like Katie did with Hubbel in The Way We Were. This movie is all about “opposites attract.” A Jewish activist and a WASP who wants to be a big screenwriter fall in love and struggle through their differences. Plus, who doesn’t love Barbara Streisand?
You can watch it for free on PlutoTV or rent it for $2.99 on Amazon Prime
Forrest Gump
This is probably not the first movie you think of when discussing romantic movies but bear with us. Any movie with Tom Hanks is worth watching, any time of year, but the love between Forrest and Jenn-ay (if you didn’t read that in Forrest’s voice, we can’t be friends) is so touching and pure that it 100% is a movie worthy of watching on Valentine’s Day.
Available on Amazon Prime for $2.99
Little Women
Another “unusual” romantic movie pick, but there are multiple different romances throughout the movie and a whole lot of love aside from those romances. This movie is such a heartwarming (and heartbreaking) watch, whether you’re watching the older version or the new version with Saiorse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet!
This one is only available to buy for $12.99 on various platforms. You can also watch for free if you already have a Hulu Premium subscription.
